Fancy a day of browsing? The Noord-Friese Winkeltjesroute (North Frisian shop trail) is a set route of about 60 kilometres past small shops, studios, farm shops and tea gardens in the countryside around Holwert. No chain stores, just people with a story of their own, happy to offer you a coffee and a chat.

Pick up the route map with stamp card at any of the shops, or download it from noordfriesewinkeltjesroute.nl. Card full? Then you get a little gift. Go by bike (an e-bike helps) or by car. You can rent a bike at Fietsverhuur Holwerd. Four Saturdays a year all stops open together from 10:00 to 17:00, next on Saturday 28 November 2026. On other days each shop has its own opening hours, so check their website before you go.
