Walking routes that call at Holwert
Holwert monuments route
From Sint-Willibrordus church along Foarstrjitte to mill De Hoop. Twelve listed places, all walkable. Two bike loops continue into the polder.
The Ziltepad
Long-distance trail from church to church along the Wadden. Holwert is a stop: Sint-Willibrordus is the stage church and a refugio. There is a circular walk from the church, plus stages to Hegebeintum and Eastrum.
Dutch Coastal Path
White-red waymarked coastal path. The Ferwert–Ternaard stage calls at Holwert and follows the sea dike towards Lauwersmeer.
Mudflat walking from Holwert
Not a waymarked trail, but the classic departure onto the Wad and towards Ameland. Guided only, depending on tide and season.
Church-to-church loops
A short day walk from church to church in the salt-marsh polder north of Holwert. In the breeding season (15 March–15 July) part of the marsh may be closed.
Claercamppad, Holwert–Blije
A longer village and polder loop to Blije, in the spirit of the old Claercamp monastery. A good half-day walk.
Waddentour Holwert
A heritage walk past Holwert’s listed village sights. Boards along the way carry a four-digit code; enter it on your phone for extra story and photos. Leaflets at the TIP.
Stay on paths and the dike. From 15 March to 15 July the Ziltepad circular walk uses a detour for the breeding season.
